The Kent Cubs have are the 2025 18+ Premiere Division Champions.
The Cubs are one of the longest (if not the longest) running teams in the Hudson Valley of any men's league team dating back to early 2000's. An original Dutchess County MSBL (HVMSBL) having moved to NABA eight years ago, the Cubs concluded an outstanding season with an overall 22-3 record sweeping a solid Royals team in the semi-finals in two straight games and a stacked Diamondbacks line-up 9-5 and 1-0 to win its second consecutive title.
Our regular season was one of our best if not the best regular season ever topping 2024 with a much more consolidated roster filled with a great combination of veterans and youth. The offense was led by All-Star veterans like MVP candidate Greg Chanelli (.492 AVG., 38 hits*, 27SBs*), Dan Slate (.439 AVG., 17RBI, 11 SBs), Zack Graczyk (.367, 23RBI*), Jack Walter (.385) and youthful All Stars in Anthony DiMarco (.500) and Austin Jorgensen (.389). Though a few of our vets in Will Grega and Marty Hand were not around much if at all this year, we bridged that gap, getting back Hall of Fame caliber offense in Clint Boettcher and we saw more of Steve Aurigemma in 2025.
Our defense was spectacular led by Bobby Wagner at short (see championship game diving play) and Walter/Koller at 3b/2b and amazing speed in the outfield by Chanelli/Slate/Jorgensen. DiMarco allowed just two stolen bases all year.
But the Cubs have become known for their pitching prowess touting Hand, Grega among other great arms in the past, 2025 was the Nick Denapoli show! A season for the ages, Nick set the HVNABA record for wins in a regular season with 13-2 and a 1.87 ERA (1.05 WHIP) only allowing 10 walks in 91 innings and more than a 5:1 strikeout-walk ratio. Pair him with Joe Redmond (3-1, 3 saves, 2.68 ERA, 48K in 37IP) and you've yourself a formidable staff despite of not having Hand or Grega back this year.
The playoffs saw virtually everyone step up and have a role on this year's sweep through the playoffs. Lost in all with the huge game by Graczyk with a complete game 6-2 victory in the semi-final clinching game not only going the distance but 4-4 at the plate including two big doubles. But Redmond out-did him by tossing a 5-hit complete game shut-out to seal the deal in game 2 to clinch the Cubs' championship 1-0.
Congratulations to this squad becoming the first back-to-back champions since the 2019-2020 Mariners and only the fourth set of back-to-back champions in league history. Will the Cubs become the first team to 3-peat? We'll see in 2026.
