Lack of commitment finally sinks HITMEN!  Arsenal knocks HITMEN outta the playoffs with an 11-1 whoopin'!


The 2008 regular season was an excellent start to the HITMEN franchise.  They finished with the best record in the National League (18-5).  They also finished their season leading the National League in offense (.344 batting average) as well as pitching (2.17 ERA).  They had a total of 6 players voted onto the National League All-Star team.  Starting pitcher JJ Gass won the National League Cy Young Award and 1B/OF Brian Younghans became the National League's Offensive Player of the Year.

Having all the tools to make a run towards becoming the first HVNABA Champions, the HITMEN strolled into the playoffs looking to do just that.  The met up with Arsenal in the National League Championship game.  Arsenal had beaten the HITMEN once during the regular season so this looked like it was going to be a hard fought series.  The HITMEN ended up sweeping Arsenal in a difficult 3 game series.  The idea of becoming the HVNABA champs was only one (3 game) series away.  The HITMEN would meet up with the Mariners to battle it out for the HVNABA Championship.  The Mariners were, by far, the best team in the American League and boasted a regular season record of 18-3.  One of those wins came against the HITMEN during their only meeting of the regular season.  These Mariners were going to be tough.  They came out fired up and beat the HITMEN 9-7 in Game 1 and 11-2 in Game 2.  That was it!!  Their season had ended.  The HITMEN came so close to the goal they had set for themselves at the beginning of the season.
