Another great weekend of baseball is in the books as this past weekend the Mets had a double header against the Diamondbacks. Game 1 was started by newly acquired pitcher Rob Bailey and he didn't disappoint. Rob looked dominate on the mound from the very first pitch he would end up going 6 IP's, giving up on 3 hits and 3 BB's to go along with 6 K's and 0 Runs. There was alot of run support for Rob as well and it came fast which is why he was able to pitch comfortably on the mound. In game 1 the offensive standout was Josh Kirkpatrick as he went 3-4, 2B, 1 RBI and 4 runs. Josh was a phenom at the plate today as he himself said that he woke up from a slump he's been in since March! Josh would end the day with 7 H's, 2 RBI's and 5 runs. Game 1 also had fellow teammate Rob Parone showing off some muscle as he went 2-4, 2 2B, 4 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Rob would end the day with 4 H's, 5 RBI's and 4 runs. The best play of game 1 came in the last inning when the Diamondbacks had bases loaded and nobody out. It looked like the Diamondbacks were finally going to put up some runs and prevent a Mercy rule until a hot shot to Christian Jones took away all hopes. Christian fielded the ball cleanly purposely ran to third base but didnt step on the bag he stepped over the base gunned the ball home to get the force out and catcher Brandon Kearns threw to first base for the 2nd out. 1st baseman Scotty Greene then tossed to the ball to 3rd realizing the runner gave up on the play and tagged him out at 3rd. The runner that was advancing to third thought Jones stepped on third which in fact he didn't so the Mets tagged him out to turn a triple play to end the game! The final score of game 1 was 14-4. Game 2 was filled with just as much excitement as game 1. The Mets would yet again mercy rule the Diamondbacks by a score of 16-6. Christian Jones would end up being the offensive standout in this one as he went 2-5, 2 H's, 2 R's, 2B, HR and 5 RBI's. Christian's homerun came in this middle of this contest when he hit a laser over the centerfield fence for a 2 run shot that woke all of the Mets' bats up. After Jones three Mets players (Kirkpatrick, Parone and McMurray) would get a hold of a pitch that made the umpire question their bats! Another great pitching performance came from the Mets starter in Game 2 as RJ Redmond got the start on the bump. He would go 5 IP's to go with 3 R's, 6 BB's, 4 K's and gave up 5 H's. Closing out the game would be Scotty Greene as he went 2 IP's gave up 1 H, 3 R's and 3 BB's. The Mets have another double header next week at Creek Rd. One at 9:00am and one at 12:30pm. The Mets will take on the Knights and the Phillies. If the Mets win both of these games they will secure their spot in the Championship as the Rockies and the Orioles face off in a double header at Red Oaks Mill Park and those are the teams seeded behind them. The Rockies or the Orioles championship dreams will be crushed or met Sunday as well.
